Charter School Commission
Serving as a Stimulus for Educational Excellence
Established in 2011, as an independent body with statewide chartering jurisdiction and authority, the vision of the Illinois State Charter School Commission is that ALL Illinois students and families have access to a high quality schools and academic experiences. Currently, comprised of nine schools (10 campuses) across the state Commission schools serve 4,000 students. Commission schools are a stimulus for educational excellence and equity; exemplifying the legislative intent of the charter schools law.
As an independent, third-party the Commission provides equal opportunity to local districts and charter applicants, ensuring that appeals are resolved in compliance with the law and the best interests of students impacted.
